We are pleased to announce that from 8 February 2026, all UKVI IELTS tests inGambia will be delivered on computer. In addition, from 24 May 2026, all IELTS tests will be delivered on computer, providing a faster, more efficient and streamlined testing experience. 
UKVI IELTS and IELTS on computer offer the same test format, questions and scoring as the paper-based version. UKVI IELTS and IELTS on computer also provide significant benefits to test takers at no additional cost: 
• Faster results: Typically receive your results in 1-2 day
• Faster booking: Book your test as late as one day before registration closes
• More test dates: More choice and flexibility for you 
• One Skill Retake: Retake just one skill, not the whole test, if you need to improve your score 

The British Council in Senegal offers IELTS and UKVI Academic and General Training and Life skills in Banjul, Gambia.

You can book your IELTS test with us online. When you book with us, you can be certain that you will be taking your test at an official IELTS test centre.

To book your test you will need to:

  1. Include your correct email address to enable you to receive key information about your test.
  2. Please note that candidates will not be allowed to take the test without the original ID document. The ID document should be a Passport/ National ID for Gambians. Student ID, Voter ID, and driver’s license will not be accepted. The ID document is strictly a valid Passport for non-Gambians. Any other identity document will not be accepted. Please note that candidates under 18 years of age have to supply written consent by a parent or guardian in order to apply for a test place.
  3. Download and read our Information for Candidates , which contains important information about the test format, the question types, and the test results. Please note that IELTS is not recommended for test takers under the age of 16.
  4. Pay for your test. You can pay for your test through our online registration system (Credit card/Debit Card)

Once your booking is complete:

  • You will receive a confirmation giving you the start time of your test and the venue address.
  • Your Speaking test may be scheduled on the same day as the other sections, or on a different day within a 7-day window before or after your main test day. The test centre will send you a confirmation for the Speaking Test date.
  • After booking your test, you will also receive an automatic email with your access codes to the free online course: IELTS Ready: Premium
  • You will also receive your IELTS Reference Number to access the Test Taker Portal. Please make sure that you have included your email address correctly when you book your test.
