On Friday 22 April 2016, British Council Senegal, the Spanish embassy and the Cervantes Institute in Dakar will commemorate the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare and Cervantes death at UCAD from 16:00. In remembrance of both literary figures, British Council World Voice school children will perform two songs adapted from Shakespeare texts, and Cheikh Anta Diop University students will recite extracts of Shakespeare and Cervantes lead by a Spanish classic guitar. Two theatre groups will also perform local adaptations of Shakespeare and Cervantes plays in English and Spanish. This event is part of a series of activities and events developed by the British Council in commemoration of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death.
